1. Implications for Curriculum, Programs, & Instruction: Follow-up Discussion of CTE Vision/Strategic Plan (AM & PM Sessions)
Learn more about the CTE Vision/Strategic Plan and discuss the new opportunities and challenges it offers concerning curriculum, programs, and instruction.

2. Practical Strategies for Implementing Reading Literacy (AM & PM Sessions)
This session will focus on teacher and student strategies to support reading comprehension. It will include pre-reading, during reading, and post-reading strategies, including vocabulary strategies, text preview, and memory and recall activities.

3. Brave New World: Implications of the New Technologies (AM & PM Sessions)
The new world our students will be facing--a startling and sometimes sobering presentation highlighting the work of Bill Daggett and the profound impact of the new bio-, nano-, and information technologies.

4. CTE Literacy Implications (PM Session only)
A facilitated discussion about the implications of literacy in CTE, including staffing, training, and resources.

5. SISME12 Presentations
Knock Your Socks Off - SISME12 AM Session
A walk-through of the new Teacher Module with some "hands-on" opportunities. Primarily intended as an overview for instructors who are, or who will be, using SISME. Formal training sessions will be offered at a later date. Presenters: Bill Thomas, Edit Systems; Paddy Clark, Consultant
SISME12 Teacher Module for Non-Users Tech Update Session
An overview of the features/functions of the new Teacher Module. Highly recommended for Directors, Administrative Assistants, and SISME Site Coordinators so that when the instructors at your school start telling you about how cool the new version of SISME is, you'll know what they're talking about.

Getting It Into SISME12 PM Session

6. School-Wide Implementation of National Skills Standards (AM & PM Sessions)
A presentation and discussion on Mid-Maine Technical Center's school-wide initiative to implement National Skills Standards and National Program Certification. The Staff will highlight the benefits and challenges of this effort and will provide practical experiences involved with this process.

8. Integrating Science in the Technical Program (AM & PM Sessions)
This session will discuss strategies used to integrate science in the technical program. All of the science lessons are taught in the student's technical course setting. The focus will be on collaborative lessons that meet the criteria of MLR and Level II assessments within the technical class.

9. Plato Learning System Demonstration (AM & PM Sessions)
A hands-on demonstration of the Plato Learning System. Topics to be covered include meeting student needs for credit recovery, academic remediation, literacy support, and Limited English Proficiency. Participants will engage in hands-on activities, sampling all features of the program.

10. What the Curriculum Resource Center of Maine (CRCOM) Can Do for You (AM & PM Sessions)
An overview of the CRCOM, including resources available for loan, policies, procedures, and CRCOM Website navigation. Participants will also have an opportunity to explore the CRCOM Website based on their individual interests and needs.

11. Vocational Student Assistance Team (VSAT) (AM Session only)
During this session participants will learn how they can help their "at-risk" students through the Student Assistance Team process. Handouts providing facts will be enhanced by examples of how the process works at Lake Region Vocational Center.

12. Building Business Ownership: Infusing Entrepreneurial Concepts in Career and Technical Education (AM Session only)
Through generous grant support, the Entrepreneurial Center at SMCC is offering secondary teacher training, a certificate in entrepreneurship, and helping to launch student business ventures. Hear from two marketing teachers how the teacher training influenced their lesson plans.

13. Best Practices for Tech Updates (AM Session only)`
This session will present examples of how a variety of program-area disciples are organizing and conducting their tech updates. Hear and share ideas for best practices in how to make the most of your tech update sessions. Participants will be encouraged to share their experiences.
